In the spirit of savoring the little things, I’ll be sharing a few things “worth noting” to me every Friday. I love sharing a great book, show, product or even just a memorable moment from the week. "The little things? The little moments? They aren't little." - Jon Kabat Zinn.
Article: things to stop saying at work
My coworker Stacie (@simply_cima) shared this fantastic article at work full of common phrases that can have unintended negative connotations (for yourself or others). One thing I'm definitely guilty of is saying "No problem" after helping someone, which can actually negate the effort of the work you've just put into what you're doing. A simple adjustment to "you're welcome" is more personable and doesn't weaken your intention. I love the idea that minor changes in language choices can have such a big affect on relationships at work. Read about 25 Phrases that Kill Workplace Relationships.
HOLIDAY ideas: Studio diy halloween costumes
Kelly Mindell of Studio DIY has a knack for creating rad halloween costumes and reveals a costume lineup every year that is always SO fun! Last year, I used her DIY hacks to create this Strawberry costume before heading to Halloween Town in St. Helen's. This year, she announced the start of a DIY shop where you can actually purchase her creations -- perfect for those in a hurry or not-so-handy with a glue gun. I'm still not sure what to be for Halloween, but I'm browsing Studio DIY and Pinterest for inspiration in the meantime. Check out this year's Studio DIY Halloween Lineup!
READ: The Power of Habit
After finally finishing The Girl on the Train (so glad the ending did not disappoint!), I'm onto some non-fiction with The Power of Habit. In all honesty, I've been terrible about exercising lately and I'm hoping this book helps me kicks some bad habits and turns me into that shining productive person I can occasionally be (here's hoping, right?).
Outdoorsy: Biking to work + lunch alfresco style
Up until very recently, it's been so hot that it hasn't been particularly enjoyable to be outside. Now that it's calming down in Chico (we're talking 90-degrees instead of triple digits), I'm especially looking forward to more bike rides! Also, take note: lunches at the park > lunches at your desk.
With the official start of fall yesterday, I'm looking forward to spending the weekend planning autumn festivities + soaking up the last of Summer's sunshine outdoors. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
