Worth Noting: 5.12.17
In the spirit of savoring the little things, I’ll be sharing a few things “worth noting” to me every other Friday. I love sharing a great book, show, product or even just a memorable moment from the week. "The little things? The little moments? They aren't little." - Jon Kabat Zinn.
I have a quote near my desk written in small type that reads "Life is not a dress rehearsal. Every day, you should have at least one exquisite moment." - Sally Karioth. While I was probably drawn to it because I grew up in theatre, I find it to be a lovely reminder to find joy in something every single day -- even if it's trying a new coffee or taking a different path to work on my bike to explore. The past couple weeks have contained full work days, good reads, an interesting talk by Michael Loop, and extra time with some of my favorite people. Here's some worth noting moments and favorite discoveries:
Shop: Beers Bookstore
Last weekend I had a quick half-day to Sacramento on Saturday to pick up something and made a stop at Beers Bookstore on the way home. I'm so glad I did! It's a Sacramento gem with affordable new and used books, a chill environment and lots of chairs to cozy up with a book.
Miss Jones Baking Co: Cookies!
I kept seeing Miss Jones Baking Co. products everywhere and decided to finally try something after being lured by the simple, organic ingredients and easy bake promise. I'm not the best baker because I tend not to actually read through a recipe before diving in (what can I say, I like to go rogue in the kitchen!) but with these, it's practically impossible to mess them up. You can grab them at stores like Safeway, so if you've got a sweet tooth hankering, grab 'em up!
Reads: Do Not Become Alarmed, Fierce Kingdom
I recently got some awesome early releases from Viking Press and Riverhead Books, so I've basically had my nose glued in a book for the past week with some can't-put-down reads. My favorite has been "Do Not Become Alarmed" by Maile Meloywhich follows two families who take a cruise in South America, only to have their kids kidnapped during an off-ship excursion. It gives both the perspectives of the parents and the children at the same time and it's completely riveting and terrifying. And speaking of terrifying, "Fierce Kingdom" is also a crazy thriller I read through in a day and a half! It's about a Mom and a son who are trapped in a zoo with armed shooters. Craziest story ever.
Pinteresting: Cucumber Tomato Salad w/ Chickpeas & Feta
I'm always saving things on Pinterest to try and this recipe is a new favorite; Cucumber Tomato Salad with Chickpeas and Feta. It's so light, but still tangy and savory that it makes for a perfect dish for warmer weather. I definitely foresee this recipe being made on repeat this Summer - yum!
