Change of Season: Looking Forward to Fall

Even amidst the sunshine, Autumn is gleefully starting to peek through around here. Fingers crossed, Northern California seems to have officially said goodbye the triple digit heat waves and is even welcoming in a few evening breezes. Summer is still lingering a little - the trees have yet to change color, my coffee is still iced and my sweater usually has to be peeled off around 2 or 3 pm when the sun is in full swing.

That being said, I’m happily embracing the shift to darker colors (hello cranberry, mustard and forest green clothing!) and have begun collecting pumpkins for the porch (it’s already a problem). I partnered with For Elyse for this post to showcase a couple Autumn inspired pieces like this top, this pair of jeans, and these boots. I actually used to work on the website staff at For Elyse a few moons ago and was so happy to highlight this brand on my blog! They’re based locally in Chico, Ca and I’ve always loved how they have high-quality, well-made items without a super high price point. You can shop their online site here or if you’re local, shop them on Broadway st. downtown.

Last but not least, with the changing seasons I always love recommending making a quick Autumn to do list to make sure to savor this season of yellow leaves and candy corn. Here’s my list for this season below. I’d love to hear yours!

Autumn To Do List

  • Take a trip to Apple Hill for apple picking

In Northern California, Apple Hill is essentially the mecca for apple picking, cider tasting and the go-to spot for enjoying soft cider donuts while picking out pumpkins to take home. I always want to make this spot a tradition, but it's a bit of a drive and definitely requires getting up super early on a weekend to beat the crowds - it's well worth it though!

  • Explore a new pumpkin patch

I tend to always go to the same pumpkin patches last minute to squeeze them in. But, I've been seeing so many friends visit pumpkin patches I've never been to and I'm realizing how much I'm missing out on supporting local farms and seeing what they have to offer. I always love how pumpkin farms usually have extra things to enjoy like fruit picking or animals!

  • S’mores in the backyard

S'mores is a must during the cooler weather season! Plus, now that I'm a vegetarian/mostly vegan, my mini barbecue doesn't get much use, so making s"mores feels like a great opportunity to put that barbeque to use!

  • Scenic walks to peep some foliage, re: local Tree Conservatory

Before the winter gloom sneaks up on us all, I love taking as many outdoor walks and bike rides as possible, which are made all the more glorious by the change in colors to the tree's leaves! If you have a nearby tree conservatory, I highly recommend making that your go-to spot for peeping foliage.

  • Watch all the favorite seasonal films

You know what I'm talking about! Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, Adam's Family - all the fun films that are best enjoyed with hot cider and too much candy.

What’s on your Autumn “to do” list?
